Kajiado County Executive Committee Member for Health, Esther Somoire has called on the residents to be extra careful on the people they interact with and observe all the measures issued by the Ministry of Health to keep Covid-19 at bay.

While issuing Covid-19 County updates on Wednesday, Somoire said that the county has recorded a total of 79 confirmed positive cases and soon there will be no much space within the isolation centers.

She urged the residents to take full responsibility by ensuring no one is walking in the public spaces without wearing a mask, keep social distance and always wash hands and sanitize as part of preventive measures.

“It is now time to treat everyone you interact with as a potential Covid-19 positive case since there is clear indication of widespread community transmission in all Sub-counties,” reiterated the Health CEC.

She noted that the majority of the confirmed positive cases in Kajiado are truck drivers and the staff and at the Namanga border point and further asked residents to embrace preventive measures.

According to Somoire, the County Government of Kajiado registered seven more recoveries who were managed at the County Referral Hospital Isolation and treatment unit as per yesterday report.

However, she noted that local cases are rising rapidly and the Isolation facilities are filling up to capacity since truck drivers cannot be evacuated to the National Referral Isolation and treatment due to full capacities.

“Residents are therefore informed that in the near future we may not have adequate facilities to accommodate the rising cases hence the need to be extra careful to help us control and manage this situation.”

According to the Ministry of Health report, a total of 85,058 samples have been tested since the disease was reported in the country with confirmed coronavirus tally reaching 2,216 as at June 3.

The National Government in conjunction with Kajiado County Government have set up a mobile laboratory in Namanga border point that is expected to ease traffic snarl-up at the points. They will serve truckers by providing sample collection and testing point so that they are issued with clearance certificate before crossing the border into another country.
