Young graduate injects fresh energy in Kajiado East campaigns

Andrew Masankala, 23, wants to succeed current MP Peris Tobiko.

A young university graduate is creating waves in Kajiado East in his efforts to succeed the area MP, Peris Tobiko.

Andrew Mwesha Masankala, who graduated from Mt Kenya University in 2021, is seeking to galvanize the support of the youth and rally them behind his campaign. He will be vying for the seat on a ticket of the Wiper Democratic Movement, should he win the party nominations in April. His main competitor for the party ticket is David Parseina.

Ms Tobiko will not be defending her seat and has set her eyes on the Kajiado gubernatorial seat on a ticket of the United Democratic Alliance, where she will be vying for the party ticket against Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito and former National Transport and Safety Authority boss Francis Meja.

Mwesha,23, studied Public Administration and Governance at the main campus of MKU in Thika. “I have experience in university politics and also community work,” he says. He is the youngest contestant for an elective position in Kajiado County.

“I have a lot of support from the young people,” says Mwesha, adding that his political science background will be vital in securing the position. He is also not aligned to any of the candidates in the county gubernatorial contest.
