Governor Joseph ole Lenku has assured Kajiado residents of the County’s preparedness to tackle the increasing number of Covid-19 cases with the available resources.

Lenku outlined that the county is now targeting to set up 300 bed capacity in the isolation centers as per the agreement during the third extra-ordinary session of the national and county governments co-ordination summit convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday at State House, Nairobi.

The summit resolved that each county will set a target of 300 isolation beds so as to deal with the rising cases of infections.

During a press briefing in Ngong on Thursday, the governor said the county government had identified three health facilities to be set up as isolation centers to tackle Covid-19 cases, which include: Ngong Sub County Hospital in Kajiado North, Ngatataek Health Facility in Kajiado Central and Loitokitok KMTC in Kajiado South.

He said the isolation units are well distributed to serve the entire population with the new infections of Coronavirus expected to soar in the months of August and September.

Lenku noted that Ngong Sub-County Hospital is now an isolation center and preparations have started to increase the bed capacity to handle the number of Covid-19 patients who will be referred to the facility.

“If we are looking forward to re-opening our economy, it is now upon every individual to observe the set guidelines by the Ministry of Health in combating Covid-19 pandemic,” said Lenku. “We need to have self-discipline and sole responsibility to keep Coronavirus infections at bay,” he added.

On the other hand, County Health Executive Esther Somoire on Thursday while releasing the County Covid-19 pandemic report raised a red flag over sample testing delays due to the shortage of test kits Countrywide.

She reiterated that the County is now experiencing delays in receiving results of the Coronavirus samples.

Somoire said that the Government has rolled out new strategies of tackling the biting pandemic including home-based care isolation protocol that is expected to ease congestion in the isolation centers.

“Residents are informed that the responsibility of ensuring that you remain safe from this pandemic is self-discipline and ensuring that at all times you observe Health and safety guidelines that have been provided by the Ministry of Health,” said Somoire.

According to the Health CECM reports on Thursday, Kajiado has a total of 101 confirmed Covid-19 cases with new infections all being contacts of previous cases.

Somoire indicated that two more patients were discharged on Thursday from Kajiado County Referral Hospital isolation and treatment center who have fully recovered.

She said the County Government appreciates the commitment and dedication of the health care workers for executing their duties with diligence in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
