Consider women for House leadership positions, Seneta urges Ngussur

The former nominated Senator says leveraging the skills and perspectives of women, will help make decisions that are more informed and nuanced

Former Kajiado East MP candidate Mary Seneta has urged newly-elected Speaker Justus Ngussur to consider appointing female nominated Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to head House committees in his administration.

The former nominated senator said, inclusion of women in key positions of leadership in the Assembly, is critical to the achievement of equitable development.

“Leveraging the skills and perspectives of women, will help make decisions that are more informed and nuanced,” she said.

She further urged the nominated MCAs, a majority of them are women, to work closely with the elected members, “and to look at policies, and budget considerations from gender lenses.”

Ms Seneta made the remarks in her congratulatory message to the new Assembly boss, shortly after he was elected. She described Mr Ngussur, whom she worked closely in the formative years of both The National Alliance (TNA), and recently in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as a very reliable team player, and one who is trust worth in whatever task given.

“Out of the experience I have had working with him, I can assure Kajiado residents that they are safe under his hands.”

She further congratulated Imaroro Ward rep Daniel Kukan for his election as the Deputy Speaker, “and indeed all the MCAs across board who have stood with our UDA party… I wish them well as they undertake their new responsibilities.”
